2017 Calendar

After wrapping up our hugely successful photography competition, our wonderful judges – Amie Forbes Photography, Dianne Hodge, and Daryl Fisher – have completed the tough job of choosing the 13 winning entries, and we have put together an amazing 2017 Calendar.

Just in time for your Christmas shopping, the calendar is the perfect Samford ‘brag book’ to send to friends and relatives, or to keep yourself to remind you how fantastic our community is. For only $10 per calendar, you can have all this, and be supporting the Lions Childhood Cancer Research Foundation.

Samford Leos @ Lions 201Q3 Convention

The Samford Leos had the honour of playing a key role in the Lions District 201Q3 convention. Seven excited Leos walked the stage with several flags to open the ceremony.
It was an amazing opportunity for the Leos to be a part of!

Thanks goes out to Chloe, Clare, Ebony, Finn, Iain, Isabelle and Tim for attending. Thanks also goes to Alice and her husband Gary for helping organise the Samford Leos.14502735_10154664278394658_4158419381443326262_n

Volunteer of the Year

One of our very own Leos (our Secretary Chloe) was nominated for Moreton Bay Regional Council’s Volunteer of the Year 2016 Australia Day Award. We went along to the award ceremony on Saturday night to support her, and to also meet some of the amazing community-minded volunteers we have here in the Region. Have a read of Chloe’s amazing achievements in The Westernerhttp://www.thewesterner.com.au/?p=7777

Our newest fundraiser!

Introducing the Amie Forbes Pet Photography Calendar!

The Amie Forbes Pet Photography Calendar has finally been published and is now out for sale! This fundraiser is in aid of Catherine Mason’s fundraising for the Lions Medical Research Foundation.

Amie Forbes is a young, local pet photographer who has been capturing amazing images of animals for the past 4 years. Amie has put in hundreds of dollars of work into this fundraiser all for free, so we’d really like to support her business and wonderful work.

Each month of the calendar has been sponsored by a local Samford business/group, including us (we chose April!) and the Samford Lions (July). The Flying Nun Cafe have kindly included a 20% off voucher in the calendar for their Friday night dinners – with Saturday night dinners also starting in January!

The calendars, priced at $25 each, are perfect gifts for family, friends, or co-workers with 100% of the proceeds going towards the Lions Medical Research Foundation (LMRF). LMRF have been operating since 1963 and have done some extraordinary research in Parkinson’s Disease, Schizophrenia, Skin Cancer, Diabetes, and Kidney Disease, just to name a select few.

To make your Christmas gift shopping even easier, we are offering free postage with any quantity calendar order, anywhere in Australia. Place your order before this Friday to receive your calendar before Christmas! Send us an email stating how many calendars you wish to purchase and your postal address. Alternatively, calendars are currently on sale at all our sponsors locations in Samford: Cats Meow Cattery, Samford Variety Store, Ray White Samford, Samford Veterinary Hospital, Animal Attraction Pet Grooming, Samford Valley Antiques & Vintage, Mooey’s, Samford Garage, The Flying Nun Cafe and The Shack Cafe.

As the calendars are direct donations to LMRF, they are fully tax deductible. If you would like a tax receipt please let us know.

Please share the word about this fundraiser, and help us to raise as much funds as we can for a very worthwhile cause!

Samford Show 2015

The annual Samford Show was held on the 14th-15th July, where we showed off our new professional face paint set, marquee and hair sprays! Some amazing creations were made by our members and they made the children really happy, which is what we aim to achieve. We also held a small bake sale alongside our face painting which proved to be extremely popular! Thank you to everyone who visited or supported us at the Samford Show. 10514613_872056026218291_7022188675084564006_n11755679_872056029551624_2898970510017378259_n-2

Soup Kitchen visits – 6 visits since being a club

Not long after we chartered the club, we came across an organisation called Vital Connection Soup Kitchen. This organisation is partly funded by the government, and brings in volunteers to help cook and serve food to the homeless people of Brisbane. We have helped out on a number of occasions to serve food and drink to the homeless. We all go in together with one of our Leo Advisors or an adult Leo, transport the food trays to the serving area (near Roma st overpass), and serve food to the less fortunate whilst talking to them and learning about how some people live. We really enjoy our experience each time we attend, and try to get over there every couple of months. Our next visit will be in early 2015.

Bunnings Brendale – 12th, 13th, 19th and 20th of December

On the 12th, 13th, 19th and 20th of December, some of our Leos helped to sell Lions Christmas Cakes and Leos Christmas raffle tickets, alongside our Lions Club at the new Bunnings store at Brendale. We were also very fortunate to be one of the community groups fundraising there on their opening day. Our Christmas raffle prize was a large basket filled with heaps of Christmas goods – the winner was very pleased to have won it!
